It’s Face Time

January 27, 2012 | 2 Comments | View

Today is Tom Saitta’s birthday. That being the case, we wanted to take a moment and a sliver of bandwidth to recognize and honor the day our Vice President of Account Management became a living, breathing creature – and to toast the man that creature became. You’re a fellow of distinction, dedication, heart, and soul. Beyond [...]

True and Smart Transparency at the CES

January 13, 2012 | No Comments | View

While every organization under the sun has been grappling with either being or appearing transparent, Samsung’s been making it happen in the truest sense. Behold, the best thing we’ve seen out of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (admittedly from afar), Samsung’s Smart Window: Weird how it makes that town so small, though. Beta? Bugs aside, [...]

Vowels, Mind Control, and You

December 9, 2011 | No Comments | View

Any post that opens with “Here’s something you should know about yourself. Vowels control your brain.” is worth your time. It’s actually a long-standing policy here at BZ, but this is the first time it has come into effect. It’s about time. In an era where vowels, the ‘nuclei of syllables’ get cut with [...]

Steve Jobs

A cursory survey around the office of our 10-person agency yields around 80 instances of the Apple logo. If we looked harder and dug a little, we’d probably hit the century mark. No other brand even comes close to half of that. If we included our homes, the landslide would continue. But to be honest, [...]

It’s good to remember that information technology in one form or another has been around at least as long as we humans. Cave paintings count too: there was a time when charcoal mixed with animal fat was the new hotness. Though we’ve come a long way (in some ways) since then, it’s cool to think about what we use today as part of a continuum of storytelling and connecting that’s something we’re naturally, amazingly compelled to do and improve upon.

QR codes need love, too.

We got a great direct mail piece from Billy Reid, and it changed the perspective on QR codes.

Let’s Evolve with Edward Boches

August 5, 2011 | No Comments | View

Not too long ago, Edward Boches caught a bug, missed speaking at a social media breakfast, and was nice enough to post his slides and notes for all of us to take in and digest. Advertising Evolves. You Should, Too has stuck with us all summer as we talk about past, present, and future (it’s not just a January tradition), tech, trends, and tacks. In the spirit of scooting things along that we imagine compels Mr. Boches to share his thoughts and work with the public, we wanted to point to it, as well. The more common these types of ideas and practices become, the better the world could be.

The RGB Revolution | Codes of Convenience

How’s this for fresh? Koreans can now shop and buy groceries with their smartphones while waiting for the subway. Tesco Homeplus (with the help of their smart agency Cheil) has placed large-format graphics in Select South Korean subway stations that look like aisles of groceries. Each item on the ‘shopping wall’ is matched with [...]

Use Your Illusion I

June 10, 2011 | No Comments | View

Here’s a good one for your Friday afternoon. The folks over at New Scientist posted a cool little exercise and illustration on the mind’s ability to recognize gradual change, pointing out that it can be very difficult, a variety of what’s known as ‘Change Blindness’. We’ve been known to like stuff about the brain and mind [...]

Pac-Man Fever (Slight Return)

April 21, 2011 | No Comments | View

Some things just never get old. Sometimes it’s because they’re timeless, other times it’s because they get rebirthed regularly. In the case of Pac-Man, it just might be both. There is a lot to be said for the original Pac-Man, his ladyfriend, and offspring. And there’s a lot to be said about the latest reincarnation [...]
